Benefits of Good Design – Why It Matters

We have another interesting topic for you this week; design, why it matters and why you should care. Design can be applied to many disciplines and there are many subtle ways that it can make our lives easier, inspire us and affect our mood. After a quick look at the different types of design, we’ll dive into why good design matters when it comes to business, marketing and printed work.

What is Design?
Design can be difficult to describe, especially as there are so many different design disciplines. It’s easier to think about design as everything around you that is manmade. Whether consciously created or not, everything has some degree of design work involved. From kettles and toasters to the way a hairdresser cuts hair. each of these things takes a degree of creative thinking and a mind that can visualise the outcome.

Design purpose is often focussed on achieving a practical result; a working product or a building that is easy to navigate. These are everyday things that we often don’t take much notice of but are an example of good design. The ease with which we open a door, find a location by following a sign, or use an app to order takeaway food – these easy tasks have been designed to be that way. if they were badly designed, you would notice design. To some degree, good design has become the standard to which we are accustomed.
